The hardest part about making a “simple” recipe is finding the proper ingredients at Pupukea Foodland. Chow Fun noodles do not double as flat rice noodles, but fresh eggs via our hens Cookie and Brownie were a nice touch. The best part is I made dinner and lunch at the same time! When you’re a kid, leftovers sucked ass, but now I love em’.
Paris isn’t really Cafe Au Lait all day, and it isn’t all baguettes and Coca either. In fact, traveling with a food nerd who is a former resident of the city means you eat really, really well. Having a French speaking companion also means that you successfully avoid the prevalent anti-American sentiment, which by my observation is well-deserved and wielded without restraint.
So without further adieu, the Paris highlights, although we never ventured far from delicious: Mon Vieil Ami, Hotel du Nord, Georges and Laduree to consummate your French pastry desires.
In Amsterdam, our most outstanding meal was had at Looks, while our outing at Bird, although highly recommended, was quite disappointing. Head to Puccini Bomboni for stroopwafel, I could eat those tasty treats times infinity. Werck is a dark, comfy lounge that is perfect for a few early evening cocktails. They have a cigarette machine too, if tobacco is your thing.
Didn’t really tour the coffeeshops, but I’d suggest visiting one outside the red light district, unless you want to surround yourself with horny college dudes. Doesn’t quite mix well with mind expansion if you ask me, but maybe you are a horny college dude.
