The Waimea buoy model is looking very, very promising.

The Waimea buoy model is looking very, very promising.

I’ve been fiddling around with integrating wave models into Buoy Alarm, and have a working proof-of-concept (Waimea buoy model above). Pretty excited about it, although looking into the future kinda feels like cheating. And for you Facebook peoples, we’re posting model reviews on the Buoy Alarm Facebook page.

George Downing's Epic Call at Waimea

Buoy Alarm takes a look back at the 2009-2010 Quiksilver Eddie Aikau, and how mother nature provided Greg Long with a secondary pulse to surge towards victory.

The Wave Watch 3 models are showing some incoming action for Hawaii. Looking good for the Triple Crown of Surfing finish of the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa. Another good sized swell directly behind it should provide some Thanksgiving action for the North Shore.
Stay tuned to the Kauai Buoy (@buoy51001) to monitor how and when the swell starts to fill in.

I don’t know what it is about town swells, but they just can’t seem to live up to the hype. Seriously, we got skunked by Felicia. Even tried twice to dawn patrol, only to be completely and utterly disappointed. Wait, wasn’t there a children’s story about this…?

Pretty much tells the tail.  We’ll see how things work out early a.m., looking pretty organized though.

Starling & Workling

Figure these Ruby goodies are probably useful to some of you. Lots of the Buoy Alarm functionality requires grabbing remote data, as well as various notification tasks (email, SMS, Twitter).  These are some of the solutions I’ve found and am currently implementing, helpful stuff.
