If you enjoy bodysurfing Point Panic, voice your support for “the expansion of passive recreational uses” at Kakaako Waterfront Park!

Point Panic, featuring outstanding views sweeping from the ocean to Diamond Head to the Waikiki skyline was identified by numerous stakeholders as being potentially one of the most prominent locations in the district. As a result, land adjacent to Point Panic currently either vacant or utilized for interim uses is proposed for expansion of passive recreational uses within Kakaako Waterfront Park.

The Hawaii Community Development Authority is currently soliciting public feedback on the Kakaako Makai Conceptual Master Plan-Draft. Comments will be accepted (via mail, email, and web) until February 16th, as well as during their monthly meeting on that day.
Um, and what’s up with the 3rd grade doodles in the Point Panic lot? C’mon gang, that’s not funny… well, actually, it’s kinda funny.

The 2010 Pure Point Panics bodysurfing competition wrapped up yesterday in inconsistent 1-3 foot surf. Overall, pretty challenging conditions, but the level of talent was extremely high and guys were making the most of it.
Barry “B.K.” Holt took top honors, with the “vanilla gorilla” Steve Kapela (who makes some mental homemade li hing mui) finishing second. I managed to tie-break my way into the semis after a horrible first round heat (Stewart claims it was the worst bodysurfing heat he’d ever been in, wave-wise), then tie-break again into the final for a 3rd place finish. Chris Moore finished fourth to round out the final.
Big, big mahalos to Kanekoa Crabbe for organizing the event. It takes a lot of work to put everything together, and Kanekoa did an excellent job.

Amaury Lavernhe wins the 2010 Turbo Bodyboards Pipe Pro. Here’s his perfect 10 from the final heat of the day. A disappointing day for the Hawaiians, as none are able to advance out of the quarterfinals. I’ve got a ton more footage from the contest, as well as Wednesday’s Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic, just need some time to cut it together.

Congrats again to Amaury, he was in rhythm all day and definitely deserved the win.
