It’s been about 15 years since I entered a bodyboarding contest, but given how epic the 2009-2010 Winter season has been, I couldn’t resist the thought of scoring Pipe with only 3 other people. A big mahalo to Darren at Hawaiian Line for the support, and to the Hawaiians on the IBA tour for slotting me in a Brazilian 4th round seed… nothing says bummer quite like having to grovel in 2-foot Irma’s.
Yesterday saw pretty fun conditions in the morning (above), and it had potential for the Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic, but sketchy afternoon winds and small surf made for a lay day instead. There’s lots of surf in the forecast, but it’s kind of North and short interval stuff, so I wouldn’t be surprised if things don’t get underway until Monday (stay tuned to the live webcast).
What does short interval, North swell with Northeast trades look like? Well, here’s exactly what it looked like this morning. What a difference a day makes.
